When Water Dragons mature, they lose the ability to survive on land, entering the water permanently. They are adept swimmers and eat whatever fish are in the lake they live in. They tend to inhabit the same lake for their entire lives, although a few live in the ocean and swim all over the world.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

FrostPearl is the Water child of FrostFlyer the Winter and PearlWave the Water. No one expected her cold hearted father to ever choose a mate, or for the mate to be the kind Water dragon PearlWave. When she hatched, FrostPearl appeared to be uncomfortable with her surroundings, despite the fact that she had been placed in the freshwater lake where her mother thrived. Her problem was soon solved when her father visited her, and half froze the water in the lake. The hatchling immediately perked up in the freezing water, and swam around, using the ice to form swirling patterns. Another lake, connecting to her mother's was dug for her, and the Winter and Ice dragons used their magic to keep the water in a permanently half frozen state. She thrives there and is often seen making beautiful ice patterns.
