Frostbite Dragons first appear at the beginning of winter, creeping in with the frosts. They have found their place in human lore as the spirits of snow, since they only reveal themselves during icy weather. In the depths of winter, they cover the world in blankets of snow and are believed to be responsible for the glittering frost that creeps over everything. Although they appear cold and distant, they are actually rather mischievous and enjoy spending time dancing through blizzards.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

His growth previously thought to have been halted by a time spell gone awry, Howsoever spent over four decades as a child while all of the dragons who shared his nest grew up. He felt special and learned to like his state, and he sometimes misses being small. Though he was physically and magically weaker than other frostbites, he relished people accusing him of "troubling unchildlike behavior". Everybody, no matter how long they've known Howsoever, couldn't get over seeing a hatchling teach husbandry, travel alone, swear, and most uncomfortably, attempt to court various women. He never was genuinely interested in finding mates until he reached adulthood (because "eeewww, gross"), but he loved to mess with people. Though Howsoever has spent longer as an adult than a child now, those still alive who know who he is still refer to him as that guy who took ages to grow up.
