Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Negra Variegata is special—and she knows it. The other dragons queue up to breed with her for her rare bloodline. Unfortunately they then find they have to do all the child care. She says haughtily that she agreed to bear their eggs, and they should be grateful that she was prepared to go that far for them. They aren't too pleased about this, which means that she doesn't get all the gifts and little treats of fish eggs and the like that they give to their other mates—but she sticks her chin in the air and pretends she doesn't care.

She has rather lovely wings, which she waves around to show off.
