Sapphire Dragons were so named for their brilliant blue-green color, which is reminiscent of the gemstone. This breed was historically hunted for their scales; even long after, they remain distrustful of humans. Normally a Sapphire is not very aggressive, but they will defend themselves vigorously if under attack. Their diet consists mainly of fruit, with smaller portions of large insects and other invertebrates. Males woo females with vocalizations similar to bird songs. Sapphire Dragons are very loyal to their mates, and it is not unusual that they pair for life.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

"The light coming out of the mist, the hymn for the gods, whom they made, blessed, and upraised- I clasp my hands and exclaim, in reverence, May She Bring Us Salvation! we entreat thee, our valiant..." Her name goes on for a page and a half in the records, so she goes by "for the gods they made- I" for short. This dragon is the only child of the Burgraves Hendricks and is expected to take on the title Burgrave in the future. Her peers address her with a variety of nicknames when speaking informally with her, finding even her shortened name a mouthful. As much as for the gods they made- I wishes to honor her parents, she's embarrassed by her very long name and has told herself she'll give her children shorter, punchier names, no more than a quarter-page long. Because she will one day inherit the castle and surrounding territory, she spends her days reviewing business dealings, handling conflicts on Hendricks land, and going to social gatherings in hopes of meeting a cute boy.
