Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s adventurous and very brightly colored.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

He was only a young little thing, yet already he was taking after his parents; courteous, kind, willing to sacrifice himself at a moment's notice to save another. While his family was delighted to find so much goodness gathered up within him, they also weren't yet ready to let him wander into peril, and so for the moment they've limited the scope of his heroism to what goodness he can do in the safer parts of the island.
