And look! It’s grown larger and its horns have developed vibrant markings. It must be close to maturing!

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Midaltitude was adopted by a small group of motley breeds, mostly bandits. By her count, ten and two-thirds out of twelve of them are bandits, and they seem pretty happy with their lot in life. Despite having helped in a few robberies already by luring targets with her calls, Midaltitude feels she really isn't cut out for this stuff. Stealing from others using violent tactics doesn't seem very nice, and she's noticed how much work the bandits have to do to set up a decent ambush with big walls to hide behind and falling rocks and so on, all the while hoping they're not caught by stronger dragons or killed by their own traps and weapons. It'd probably be easier to just get a job. Midaltitude would like to have a job someday, but she's only going to tell her group when she's good and ready to leave and be independent.
