It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Yellow and green antenna-shaped horns sprout from the back of Purpaidh's skull, laying elegantly over her long neck and back. With her bright colours she is easy to spot in any surrounding, and as the shy dragonette is wary of humans and most dragons she keeps deep within her cave, surfacing only during mating season.

Like most Purple dragons, Purpaidh eats meat instead of moss and plants only during this time, when her mate, the fierce Black dragon Dimmu Borgir, brings it to her in abundance. As soon as the season ends they don't see much of each other though; Dimmu's mind is too occupied with hunting and fighting to stay raising his offspring, and leaves Purpaidh as soon as mating season ends. Then Purpaidh retreats into her cave once more, dutifully hatching the egg and seeing the hatchling into healthy adulthood before the next mating season begins, and Dimmu Borgir returns.
