Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

As her name would imply, Race is quick and competitive. She loves turning every, little remedial task into a game, whether it be chasing off aggressive dragons from her family's property, hunting for food, or even just organizing shelves of herbs for her grandfather. Everything needs to be fun, even if it means making these tasks far more complicated than they need to be. Race is surrounded by mixed feelings. Since she is so social, she is well connected with all her cousins and siblings (save for the side of the family that has been banished.) Some really enjoy her playful attitude, confidence, and charisma and indulge her in her games. Others are not as amused and think her hatchling-ish antics make things more difficult. Race doesn't really care what others think, but that also means she doesn't care to improve or change herself. So long as she's having fun, everything is fine, which is a fine outlook to have except that it isn't really realistic. But since when does she care
