Falconiform Wyverns are normally shy creatures. However, when approached, they often feel threatened, and the flames along their bodies leap higher. Females tend to be smaller than males, though Falconiform Wyverns are typically rather large overall. They use their size to their advantage by hunting smaller dragons. The Falconiform’s graceful, swooping dives are said to resemble birds of prey. Falconiforms are largely solitary dragons that only meet in order to breed.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Though she grew up shy and unwilling to approach others in the family, Hiai developed a liking for listening to stories told by the elder dragons. She became especially enamored with tales of tragedy and heartache, finding the poems written by pining lovers to be particularly lovely and evocative. Hiai eventually began to compose similar poems herself, creating stanzas full of longing but addressed to nonexistent recipients. Incidentally, Hiai's pastime attracted the attention of her eventual mate, who heard her reciting such a poem to herself one day.
