Thunder Dragons are the masters of electricity. Their wings gather energy as they soar through the clouds, and when they clap their wings together they can create devastating arcs of lightning. They can stay airborne nearly indefinitely, landing only to sleep and breed; they catch their prey from the air and take moisture from the clouds. A thunder dragon’s roar is considered to be an omen of misfortune.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Gifted to the clans when she was only an egg, Ashni's childhood was one of formality as she was engaged to one of the most important males in the cave. Never feeling comfortable with the pomp and ceremony that surrounded her, Ashni would sneak off and play alone,  pretending to be a storm as she swooped alone the narrow tunnels and sent a charged lightning bolt at anything that moved. Soon this practice became boring, and she moved on, aiming her electricity at targets then striking out with power and accuracy, often destroying the target as she did so. As she grew older she found fewer opportunities to sneak off, and found herself once more drawn in to the life of the upper-class dragons which she grew to despise, her fiery spirit rebelling at what she had to endure. When the time came for her to move to the Aquarius Clan, she did so, only to find herself missing her importance as she slaved over summoning after summoning ritual.
