Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It is very aggressive, and has brilliant turquoise markings all over its body.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

The frozen Little Scald Glassweaver is the closest thing that could be considered a friend for Little Ember Shrieker. She was given up to Fel Shrieker by her mother, Fel's second-in-command, simply to be an experiment to see if it was possible to raise any hatchling with Ember apart from Hellfires. The experiment, thankfully, was a complete success, despite Scald being frozen with Ember by the same mysterious, wandering human.

Scald's temper isn't nearly as terrible as her adopted siblings'. She prefers to act out defensively against them when they lash out at her; simply holding her ground or flitting away from them is all it takes to eventually tire Ember, Brim and Tiny Fel out and quickly bore of their deadly 'game'.

As the first non-Hellfire to be raised by Cautious Combustion, Scald holds a unique love-hate relationship in her adopted mother's heart. Fel is proud of the Spitfire for her strength, though repulsed and angered by her being frozen.
