Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Matron is the matriarch of her coven, and she is the most cunning and evil of them all. Her fellow vampires worship her, and are always eager to please, hoping to get a reward. She only bites eggs she considers "worthy". After she bit her first egg, she made sure to raise it well, to make it grow into a cunning fiend like herself. But, the human that served as a master to the dragons within the area snatched up the hatchling when it was hours old. Matron heard the human muttering about "freezing", and was instantly alarmed. To think, her heir would be frozen in ice as some kind of decoration! To her surprise, the hatchling returned an hour later, looking unchanged. However, it did not grow, and was stuck as a defenseless hatchling, so Matron rejected him, and decided to find another egg to make her heir. She tried again, but this time her egg was stolen! She had a third attempt, and was successful. She hopes to raise the new egg, and get revenge against the human that foiled her.
