Skywing Dragons spend most of their lives flying in the air. They hunt from the air, diving at prey from above, and land only to rest. They are some of the fastest fliers, capable of extremely high speeds. The webbing at the end of the tail acts as a rudder, allowing them to easily change direction during flight.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Her name means "Whirlwind" in Japanese. Alongside Kentaro and Kiyomi, Maikaze is one of the first dragons in the colony. She was raised by Remy, a strange human who founded what would eventually be Ryuu Tanima the "Dragon Valley". Maikaze was raised alongside Kentaro and Kiyomi, and is very close to both of them. She is a really fast flier, and a beautiful girl. A brief, whirlwind romance with Akihiko produced her first daughter Sora, who is now her constant companion. She is best friends with Kiyomi, although she doesn't see much of her. It was a very long time before she managed to fall in love again. Tenryu was the lucky male that managed to steal her heart. She was hesitant about getting in another relationship, but he proved to her that true love does exist and is worth everything. She is glad that she took a chance, and she has been greatly rewarded with everlasting love. They are life mates now, and they can't wait to spend the rest of their lives together.
