Magma Dragons are capable of withstanding the intense temperatures of their element. They live in volcanic regions, their bodies coated in the red hot magma which clings to their scales. They must leave the lava fields in order to hunt, although they require surprisingly little food to sustain their lumbering mass.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

When Nine Tapas hatched, the first thing she smelled was a heartseeker's trail and she knew she had to chase it. This proved a challenge, having hatched among the lava of a volcano piercing the southern ice cap. It took many years before the nebulae brought a white to take her north to the South Sisters; from there she snuck on a boat north to the mainland. She crossed the Drowned Mountains and other less-than-friendly locations on the treacherous journey, but every time she felt like giving up a whiff of chocolate called her onwards. The trail eventually led Tapas halfway across the Voiceless Desert to the Bleeding Hart. There, with a final whiff of chocolate, she finally met Icolix.

Tapas is a fun-loving, energetic magma, though somewhat stunted from her harsh past. One of her favourite tricks is to make tapas, cooking up to nine small food items on the rocks of her back. She can often be found splashing in lava floes or tussling with her mate on cooled, firm ground.
