When Water Dragons mature, they lose the ability to survive on land, entering the water permanently. They are adept swimmers and eat whatever fish are in the lake they live in. They tend to inhabit the same lake for their entire lives, although a few live in the ocean and swim all over the world.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Salakuan (In ancient draconic, his name means 'water snake') lives in a giant lake that was once a volcano that collapsed on itself (a caldera).  Lake Hydrani is unique because what were once side vents in the volcano form a series of underwater passageways that are now his home.  Salakuan is very serious, and he has an iron will that he imposes on anyone and everyone around him.  The only one who meets his gaze without fear is his mate, Xaviz, whose magic is used to maintain the passageways and keep them from collapsing.

Salakuan, being wingless, is pro-mint in the war.  He is unable to take part in the actual battle, being confined to his lake, but has promised to aid the mint royalty in any way he can.
