Moonstone Dragons are named after the orb on their tails, which resembles the gem of the same name. They are nocturnal and gather energy through the absorption of moonlight with their orbs. They seem to glow with a lunar light and are a very gentle breed, feeding off of plants and the moons’ power.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

In his old life, the Dark Moon's Crime was an heir of glory. He was known as Moonmurder then, his name a testament to what would become of any enemies who threatened the Weyr. Raised by the Speaker of the Moon's side, he was hailed as one step on the careful ladder that would one day produce the Heir of the Moon, a prophesied dragon who would bring the Moon's Pure Light to the continent. His line was eight generations strong, back to Smoothstone himself, his blood some of the most Moon-blessed in the Weyr. His descendents would be honored, his legacy sung.

Until the Night of the Dark Moon. He was dragged from his home, along with his mother, her father, back to some peasant far below his caste. Smoothstone cried that the Moon had delivered a vision declaring all of the line of Moonhush to be Dark Ones, their blood cursed and black in their veins. They were banished, all, to wander the continent. He still does not understand, so long after, how his own blood could have betrayed him so.
