This hatchling appears to be... dead?
Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Yes, this hatchling appears to be dead. They look very much dead from very far away. They also look very much dead from up close, too. For a dragon whose name is BELIEVE ME I'M STILL ALIVE, this dragon looks very much dead.
But no. This dragon is alive. He is very much alive. Believe him, he's still alive.
When other dragons least expect it, he won't exactly jump up (he can't jump he's an almost dead hatchling), but he will yell out, to the best of his ability, "BELIEVE ME I'M STILL ALIVE!" The dragons never expect it.
