Red Dragons are similar to typical story book dragons. They shoot flames, can fly, etc. However, they aren’t evil creatures as depicted in myths and won’t go around raiding castles, killing knights, or kidnapping princesses. They live in a variety of habitats, from forests to coastlines to abandoned castles, usually in warm climates, and eat whatever living creatures they can find.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Even before he hatched, Thewra chose to pick on Xubwa, trying to sneak past his parents and shatter the egg. After he hatched and she was forced out of the Bleeding Hart volcanoes, Xubwa was cautious and fearful of just about everything larger than himself—which, then, was just about everything—and much that was smaller than him. He feared Nukerflame's cooking especially, which was hard when she tried to be nice. Nouwn took a liking to him too, though his habit of treating things like objects was similarly frightening. His older brother tried to help, but Fithinias was always huge and scary.

Eventually Xubwa grew up, but he still fears many things. Some suspect it to be a direct result of hearing Thewra fighting through the eggshell, others suspect he simply has a frail nature. Regardless, he has managed to become a functional member of his clan, though it is rare for an outsider to see him. Many outsiders assume the Clan of Flame dragons simply make up his existence to trick them.
