Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Nacalian is the wife of Celeton, the strongest and oldest guardian dragon in his cave. Nacalian is the a powerful fighter herself, though she does match equal her husband's prowess. She also possesses an arsenal of spells that is almost unique, using magic more than physical assaults in battle. She is a powerful defender of her cave.

Nacalian is rock-hard towards most other dragons, and as such does not raise guardian eggs, though it would be her duty if she cared for it. However, beneath layers of gruff determination and rough personality that shuns others, she buries a kind and personable being that she only reveals to those she chooses to. She is actually a very nice dragon if she wishes to be, though she doesn't normally. She also, since marrying Celeton, has developed the habit of reading stories, especially fiction, though it is not in keeping with her character.

Nacalian is a striking figure, a dragon of well-deserved renown.
