Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Cabay likes juttis. Or maybe she doesn't like them, but she claims she was "destined" for them and is thus obliged to "like" them. As a baby, the first thing she broadcast with her newfound telepathy skill was an image of a pair of shoes, and only months later did her mother find out that the picture she was shown was of a real thing. Cabay wears juttis wherever she goes, not on her feet but tied to her head because she doesn't want them to fall off while she's flying. She and her mother travel around the world, and whenever they stop somewhere inhabited by humans, she likes to tell everybody she meets about how fabulous her juttis are. Some of them try to sell or barter new footwear, but she declines them because those aren't her destiny.
