Script Dragons are named for the markings along their wings and sides that look almost like calligraphy. The patterns correspond to no known language, and are slightly different on every dragon. These dragons only develop the characteristic markings when they reach maturity, and they are fairly capable with magic once the patterns appear.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Printmaker, a peaceful dragon, finds herself in danger often in her volcanic home. She always has spells prepared to get her out of a bind if flight or boastful talk does not suit the situation. In some cases, the "danger" can be easily repelled by her cooking—she uses peanut- and tar-based inks in her writing and happily adds some to her mash pile. She then eats some and offers the pile to an unwanted guest or annoying traveler, and they usually hustle away quickly.
