Horse Dragons have equine-shaped bodies and hooves instead of claws, which allow them to be fast runners. They specialize in running takeoffs, which are quicker than taking off from a stand-still. Horse dragons are able to stalk their prey from the ground then quickly execute an aerial attack for the kill.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Some breeds of dragon are bestowed with magical skill or control over a substance or idea. There are magma dragons, able to manipulate a volcano's contents, and moonstone dragons, who can absorb energy from moonlight, and so on. Other breeds seem to have no powers and are occasionally bullied by the ones who do. Comedy Amon has begun a movement to take away their powers, claiming he was granted the ability to do so by the spirits. He has made many enemies because of his ideals, but he is a skilled fighter who faces all opponents with confidence. On nights when he isn't dealing with his foes, Comedy Amon does stand-up, telling jokes that no one laughs at. For instance: "The other day, I took away a blind green dragon's ability to manipulate the earth. I said to her, 'Not so Toph are you!'" It elicited no laughter. Comedy Amon is stubborn, though, and he's begun telling jokes to his enemies, even as they fight.
