Glystere Wyrms spend most of the year deep in arctic seas. As winter approaches, these dragons will emerge from beneath the ice to congregate midair in search of a mate, where the glitter of mana crystals down their bodies can be seen as they fly across the night sky. Glystere Wyrms are known to take a respite from flying by looping around trees, over homes, or across high-hanging cliff edges while entwined with others of their kind. The colorful light of their mana crystals and the icicles formed down their undersides often leads them to be mistaken for festive decor when at rest. Traveling with friends and families to find the most brilliant display of these wyrms has become a steadfast tradition during the holiday season.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

For years, Luckless Lad was just that: the least respected in his family, a bad swimmer, and deemed too dull and quiet to be mate material. After shielding a stranger one rainy winter day, he received, as gratitude, a teleport-scroll to a faraway city full of lights, life, and gold. He was taken on an adventure and surrendered much of the mana on him paying for the tours, food, and lost bets. He also met a lady, an Aquilo Xenowyrm. Despite knowing little about her, he was sure she was The One. She seemed to like him, too, and soon agreed to leave her home each winter to hang with him. One night, she suddenly dumped him, favoring a bigger and tougher dragon, but she had another change-of-mind just as Luckless Lad was about to leave the city for good. He wasn't upset, only happy to see her again. Those events felt arbitrary to Luckless Lad, in a way that favored him, and he keeps his tail crossed his luck doesn't run out. The two have been meeting up in his winter home every year since.
