Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Polyantha is a very cheerful, optimistic hatchling with a knack for coaxing even the most reluctant hatchling into a game. She asked Norivan to freeze her, so that rescued hatchlings could be greeted by someone their own size, and now she's the official welcomer for newly arrived hatchlings. Polyantha's current mission is to socialize Selris Wildling, but given the little dorsal's feral temperament, her best efforts have so far been in vain.
