Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Ossidiana, like most of her breed, sees herself as a warrior. She acts decisively at all times, putting all of her energy and courage behind everything she does. Sometimes she gets in over her head, though, and when that happens, she's usually the last to admit it. She refuses to accept things any way but her (usually well-intentioned) way. She acts as the de facto military leader of the Flight. No one asked her to -- given that the Flight rarely ever finds an enemy they can't talk away, it's possible no one wants her to.

Ossidiana is, however, a very devoted mother. She tries to bring up all the hatchlings under her sharp standards of combat training, to help prepare them for the world, but she also tries to be loving towards them. Her only real training success is her firstborn daughter, Antimone Anastasios. The pair is very close, and can be seen sparring in the sky most days or hunting together for the young hatchlings.
