Spitfires are a desert breed of dragon. Their dull brown bodies contrast with their brilliant turquoise markings, and they only blaze brighter when these dragons fight. Spitfires are notorious for their territorial natures, and the wing-edges of most are ripped and tattered before their first year is out. Spitfires are also noteworthy for their brilliant blue fire, which is used not for hunting or fighting, but rather for making glass caves from the sand, in which the dragons can soak up the sun.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Startling Scars was an easygoing dragon at the start of his life. However, that quickly changed, as his former clan was seldom peaceful, favoring aggression and survival of the fittest. Since he possessed above-average physical qualities, many a dragon challenged him. He was left covered in scars that covered in brilliant turquoise scales and grew with him as he matured. He looked much unlike his sister, who did not possess the same scars. She had a kind heart and pitied the torn-to-pieces hatchling, who, after his last fight, was left in a state of disrepair. While her mate was not looking, she smuggled him out of the cave and left him at another, more peaceful cave past the mountains. The leader of the new cave, Black Gaze, welcomed both Startling Scars and his sister. But she could not stay, fearing the worst of reactions from her mate. She returned to her cave, always waiting for the day when she could fly over the mountains that separated them and stay with her true family.
