Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Singed and Stained Work Gloves lives in the orange-marked cave four him-lengths from Dead Man's Walk. He's an odd sight in this area, since he is a dark-hued false-headed hydra, but he doesn't know where he's from and would look blankly at anybody who asks if he's lost his way home. Dead Man's Walk gets a fair number of visitors, and sometimes, he joins them on their little tour. No matter how many people he's followed, he's never quite come to an understanding what about this place attracts them here. Folks have talked about ghosts and souls of the dead, but that doesn't sound like a good reason to travel all the way here. Singed and Stained Work Gloves enjoys heading into one of the tunnels to find mana. He is a hardy little dragon and skilled at picking through junk, and his thick hide prevents him from getting too banged up even after doing a lot of careless digging.
