Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Thelema is the eldest surviving child of the ice beast Godelot. Charmed to remain a dracling for what is left of his life, his main duty is that of keeping his mother company. But despite his appearance, he is rather old and knowledgeable. He is incapable of casting spells himself, however. This is due to the non-magical nature of his estranged father, whom he greatly resembles.
