Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Abooorimon thinks she's gone mad. Every seven moons, a booming voice only she can hear compels her to seek out the same male to mate with and produce an egg, specifically, one that's inherited her shine. There is little chemistry between her and the male in question, and they have no control over which kind of egg they produce or if they have one at all, two things the Mad Voice doesn't seem to understand. None of the eggs have had the desired metallic color, and the Mad Voice inevitably lays verbal abuse on the two. Nowadays, others shun Abooorimon, either because they assume they'll catch her "brain disease" or because they think she's just a floozy. She lives alone in a cemetery among the graves of dragons, who were killed because their lineages did not appeal to the Mad Voice.
