Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has bright, shiny scales and loves to play in the sunlight.

And look! It’s grown a forked spade at the end of its tail and long, tufted whiskers! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Friday Freeze was born during a terribly lengthy cold period which some folks are now calling The Big Bad Cold Snap. During the first few years of his life, his family had a hard time providing for him and would sometimes forego a meal so he could eat. He's small and scrawny for his age, but he's gradually gaining muscle and fat, and everyone in his family who worried about him before now believes he'll be fine. Friday Freeze is kept busy by chores and errands, and he loves that. Being useful to his clan is very important to him, since for a long time, he felt he was only a drain to everybody. He happily takes all the assignments given to him and seeks out jobs from the dragons who are really busy and don't mind sharing their work. Now, Friday Freeze is good at many things but great at nothing, and that's fine when he only needs to know just enough about something or be just good enough at it to complete the task.
