Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Sagbeth and his firstbitten Vampirica live in the northernmost mountain of the range that their clan makes their home. Sagbeth was always an outcast when he was raised in the clan cave, and eventually asked Scrollkeeper for an egg that he could bite to make himself a companion. His wish was granted and he got a companion on his first try. Of course, this horrified the other dragons, especially the females of the clan's Egg Watch. He took the egg to the north and raised it in a cave. Now he and Vampirica rarely go to the main cave except for mandatory meetings. When Sagbeth and Vampirica do go to the main cave, they inspire fear among the rest of the clan dragons. In their home hunting grounds, he and Vampirica act as partners, even though they cannot produce their own offspring.
