Red Dragons are similar to typical story book dragons. They shoot flames, can fly, etc. However, they aren’t evil creatures as depicted in myths and won’t go around raiding castles, killing knights, or kidnapping princesses. They live in a variety of habitats, from forests to coastlines to abandoned castles, usually in warm climates, and eat whatever living creatures they can find.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Everyone has a dream, yet many are forced to follow a different path to the one they'd desire. At first, this seemed like the way that Baz would go, his breed meaning that he would be expected to be an incubator for the nursery. Indeed, Baz trained at incubating eggs for a long time, until one day he saw a poster recruiting dragons for cave patrols. Patrol dragons were seen as tough, fierce dragons fighting to protect the cave from attacking wild dragons, and Baz knew in a second that was what he wanted to do. That day he quit his job, left his cave, friends and family, and signed up. And he has never regretted it since. The excitement, the pride he feels when he patrols the surrounding areas is a feeling incomparable to any other and Baz is almost addicted to it. He made new friends, met his one true love, all through following his dreams. Although sometimes he does wonder what his life would be like had he stayed, he knows in the heart what he did was right for him.
