Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The Archmage, or Blackwolf as he is known to those brave enough to call him friend, was one of the earliest dragons to arrive in Verdant, and was instrumental in organizing The Seven, the core group of wizarding dragons who create and oversee the magical protection for the community and surrounding weyrs.  Intimidatingly intelligent, with a cast in each of his eyes, he leaves the unaware nervous about what he might be seeing, and the oddly focused stare is threatening to many.  He does not suffer fools, and even fools understand that with a single look.  To those who do call him friend though, he is a rare treasure, with warmth, wisdom, a surprisingly sentimental heart and an absolutely wicked sense of humor.
