When Water Dragons mature, they lose the ability to survive on land, entering the water permanently. They are adept swimmers and eat whatever fish are in the lake they live in. They tend to inhabit the same lake for their entire lives, although a few live in the ocean and swim all over the world.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Rrim is the guardian of the Alice, the Leetle Tree in the clans. Many a night he shuns his friends to sit and water Alice, and when he is sure that everyone is asleep, he croons sweet lullabies into her branches. Although he would never admit it to anyone, Rrim sews Alice little hats, which he thinks are adorable, although Alice has yet to give an opinion. Alice's frequent changes shock him, as while he sees her beauty no matter what form she takes, he worries when she shrinks down to the size of a sprout, or when her branches are bare in the winter months. Fiercely defensive of her, Rrim chases away any hatchlings who think it would be fun to singe her leaves, or to bury a shiny coin under her roots like the pirates of old. The duty of tending Alice goes to the newest water dragon in the clans, as it is seen as a boring and lonely job, yet Rrim prays that never again will a water dragon join the clans, so he can tend his precious Alice forever.
