Sunbeam Drakes are the diurnal counterparts to Moonglow Drakes, their eggs having been laid during the daylight hours. They are around the size of a small dog, and while docile, can be flighty and easily startled. Most can be found high in treetops enjoying the bright sunlight, tucking themselves away at the first sign of a storm or impending nightfall. Sunbeam Drakes enjoy flying in the light of the sun, and their treetop dances are beautiful, dazzling, and serene.

Though it may appear at first that dragons and drakes have much in common, the two are completely separate species. Drakes are smaller and less intelligent than their cousin species, though both dragons and drakes sit comfortably near the top of the food chain. They are always found bearing antlers and leathery wings. Drakes share many of the same habitats that dragons do, and typically hunt in packs.

Sparsfir is one of various Day Glory Drakes that make their home in the small human village of Streamfell. His origins are unknown, but he was adopted by the village people after wandering in one day and now happily shares what they have to offer; many find his bright colors and friendly spirits welcoming. He has a bad habit of eating food offerings meant to be for fairies or spirits, but then some point out that maybe Sparsfir himself is the spirit. He has a habit of attracting hummingbirds around himself, which none can explain.
