This hatchling’s behavior is not cute at all; it keeps trying to kick and bite you.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

The clans have always felt guilty about Oydd being frozen, him having been a gift from a faraway land that was mistakenly frozen instead of another hellhorse of the same age. As a result of this few of the Aquarius Clan, who freeze the dragons, cannot even face him, and many of the higher ups will go out of their way in order to avoid him. Oydd has not applied to have a job in the cave; as it is optional for ungendered hatchlings, because he knows that if he does, he will be sent far away so he cannot prick the leaders' consciences by his mere presence. Yet this leaves Oydd with nothing to do to fill his days, so he spends his free time lugging wood from the pile to the individual campfires which dragons huddle around at night, knowing that they will be incredibly tired when they return from their hard day's work. While few have noticed that it is Oydd who does this, many appreciate the extra bit of rest they get at the end of a long shift.
