This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This vampire is known primarily for being the subject of this Halloween-themed jingle:

"The Itsy Bitsy Vampire crawled up out of her tomb

Out came the sun which drove her back to gloom

Soon came the clouds that covered up the sun,

Then the Itsy Bitsy Vampire could leave the tomb again."

Those who seek her usually find only traces of the shy little vampire: fang-marks on a few of the local cattle, stray claw-marks on a window-frame or barn door, and possibly the sound of her pitter-pattering across a roof at night. Even nocturnal dragons rarely see her pale shadow, and almost none have managed to speak to her. She does not attack humans, dragons, nor dinos and she never drinks enough to kill livestock, so none see a problem with her presence.
