And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young drakes are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own.

Cubbin hates getting groomed by her humans. When that dreaded first day of each month arrives, she behaves as if the family are trying to murder her. The sponge, bucket, towel, cotton balls, brushes, and scissors are all her enemies and must be avoided. She struggles and bites as the family members try to clean her, often hurting and soiling herself in the process. Cubbin would be embarrassed about her behavior if she were self-aware and intelligent, but the humans feel it deeply on her behalf and dislike grooming her.
