Seasonal Dragons take on the characteristics of the season during which they are born. Thus, eggs that are laid in spring match the pink flowers and green buds of spring, and those that are laid in the summer grow to depict the bright green of the forest trees and the yellow of the sun. Eggs laid in autumn display the bright colors of leaves falling from trees, and those that are laid during winter take on the appearance of the icy snow.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Hisilosse was born in a rather harsh winter; flakes of snow floated into even the deepest of the caves, carried by the northern winds. It was a surprise for her parents to see the egg she came from, as it resembled clumped snow and was cold to the touch. After trying to incubate the egg and only managing to freeze her own belly, her mother gave up trying and the egg was put in an incubator by the exasperated human that discovered the egg lying around. Although the baby dragon seemed quite normal, it turned out also that she did not resemble any of her parents. This resulted in some quarrels between the two normally friendly dragons, but Hisilosse followed her parents around, flapping her tiny wings as if nothing was happening. Finally, after a few months of quarrel, her parents realised how stupid it was and gave up. Hisilosse still remains proud of this, although her friends point out that she did not do it knowingly.
