Copper Dragons are masters of stealth, slipping silently and swiftly through the forests and jungles where they live. Often hunting in groups, their prey rarely know they are being stalked until the dragon’s at their throat. In the air they are agile and skilled. Copper Dragons prize family groups, spending large amounts of time teaching their young skills. So great is their love of life and family that they will sometimes adopt orphaned dragons of other breeds to raise.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Cloudbrook, along with his older sister Smokedapple, are enslaved by their Desipis mother Torment. The only reason they serve her is because of their skills in hunting, providing the massive Halloween dragon with endless meat to gorge on. When not performing their duties, the two Coppers are chained up like dogs.

Hatred is a word all too familiar to Cloudbrook. From his horrible mother to his abandoning father, he's known it all his life. He hates hunting, he hates his parents, he even hates the other dragons in the cave, with the little time he has gotten to know them. They're not caged up and bullied by their parents, so he wonders why he is.

The only reason the young Copper doesn't completely blow a fuse is his sister. Smokedapple has done so much for the two of them, especially him, that he would feel guilty if he ruined it all. He also shares something with her that he doesn't share with anything else: love.
