Avea Pygmies are extremely active dragons known for their aptitude for flight. They will often fly for long distances and are in a constant state of migration. Avea Pygmies live in large groups for protection and they will care for each others’ young. They are herbivores and especially like fruits and berries. When dealing with other species, Avea pygmies are short-tempered and quickly take offense. After one has offended an Avea, gifts and bribes are the best way to regain trust.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Pygmy dragons are the smallest category of dragons, being on the same scale as domesticated animals. They are often found around concentrated populations of dragons, relying on their larger brethren to ward away potential predators and leave scraps. As such, the majority of a pygmy’s diet is scavenged. Due to their tiny size, pygmies do not breed with larger varieties of dragons.

It is generally said that avea don't get along with other types of dragon, and for some time Bluets believed this. Even after he lost most of his pack to a magical trap laid by a hunting tsunami wyvern, he chose to avoid other kinds of dragons. Then he chanced across Tetra Means Four's pack of tetras. They were always on the move, and while Bluets was offended by TMF's comment that he and Aveaction were the two-of-something and signified attraction, the other members of the pack were friendly enough. For some time he kept meaning to fly away whenever anyone started talking about numbers and predicting the future, but he felt so much safer among all the other dragons—especially Looks Like Lumina, who remains small enough to not tower over him and his mate. He still gets annoyed when the tetras start discussing omens and foresight, but he knows to keep his thoughts to himself.
