Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Despite being the eldest child of Meachran, son of the clan chief, Paganach was never truly accepted as a member of his family. In his youth he was the only Black hatchling amongst nothing but Guardian cousins who could not accept his superiority in any game, which he owed to his ability to cast magic spells, something which they could not. In later life he was considered a heathen because he does not stick to the Guardian principles of looking after others but is warlike instead, needing little reason to start a fight.

Yet Paganach is loved dearly by his siblings and parents, especially his father, making him unwilling to leave his old home and the few that care for him. To escape constant conflicts with his cousins and other relatives, he patrols the borders of the clan's lands instead, making sure no stranger sets foot within their territory. It seems he is a Guardian after all.
