Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Electric yellow scales shimmer brightly across its belly, and an even brighter spark adorns its tail.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Zippity is impatient, grouchy, and fidgety, and he had a habit of loosing jolts of electricity at others and claiming it to be accidental. When he was younger, his parents and other adults accepted that he seemed to be especially prone and forgave him, despite protests from his peers. The more times those spurts hit someone or something he didn't like, the less inclined people were to believe that was accidental. The last straw was when Zippity complained about having to attend the biannual Emergency Prep Party and threw a bolt at one of the volunteers, one who happened to criticize his behavior before. The injured and furious dragon descended with some choice words for him. Other bystanders voiced their complaints as well and were ready to pummel him, only halted by the presence of the district leader and her entourage. For all of the shocking behavior that he had previously gotten away with, Zippity was grounded for weeks. Currently, he's conducting himself properly.
