Neotropical Dragons are a breed that originate in rainforests. They are fun-loving and enjoy lounging on tree branches, eating whatever fruit they find. They are also often found sunning themselves on rocks, using their large wings to soak up the rays. In the summer, males compete for mates by showing off their striped wings and gliding in spirals down the tree trunks. It is said that the larger the wings, the more likely the male will attract a suitable mate.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Once, after 3D1OT got lost on her way to Sherinas's weyr for a tea party, Banancicle decided to go out of his way and lead her there, since the celestial is notoriously bad at directions (and anything else requiring a brain). This was a bit of an undertaking, as he had to lead her from the tropical Madder Jungle all the way back to Nworset, thousands of miles away. After the trip, Banancicle decided he might as well stay "on vacation", and has been vacationing in Nworset ever since. Because of the temperate climes he is usually bundled up in at least one thick, dragon-cashmere coat. He has bought an apartment in the new district, gotten a mail-sorting job at the post office, and hired the magi to enchant a greenhouse with fire and light mana for him so that he can raise banana trees. Nonetheless, he insists he is simply "on vacation" and sends a lot of postcards home to friends in the Madder Jungle.
