Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Nix the Knock discovered "knock, knock" jokes as a very young hatchling, soon managing to annoy all but the most patient dragons and humans by following them around, saying "Knock, knock!" When the intended victim did not respond with the desired "Who's there," the little dragon kept repeating his "knock, knocks" in an increasingly intrusive manner. He did not try to understand when some would try to explain that he was being thoughtless or rude, or even abusive, in the pursuit of his jokes. He finally knock, knocked the wrong person, an itinerant wizard who was more interested in his own plots and scams than the tired jokes of a pesky hatchling. "NIX THE KNOCK," he thundered at the hatchling. Stunned and frozen, all the hatchling can say now is "Nix the Knock."
