Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

In My Heart I Am Loved (otherwise known as Heart) has always been a little fearful that her parents never loved her. Why else would they give her egg to a Vampire to bite! The Vampire, Moon, seems to like Heart, even if Heart is wary of her. But Heart isn't sure why her parents did what they did and the answers they have given her aren't satisfactory.  Why would it mater if she was born a Storm dragon But when she asks, Goodbye and Will just look at each other and seem at a loss for words.

Heart named herself, trying to stay cheerful even though she doesn't really know what to do anymore. All she wishes is that her mother and father would start telling her what went wrong—or what went right—when she was a hatchling.

She has hope that she might be able to get to know the Vampire hatchling, Little Candy Pumpkin and maybe strike up a friendship with her.
