And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing. Small bolts of electricity occasionally fly off of it, zapping nearby objects.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Instead of flying and making showy thunderbolts like thunder hatchlings her age should be doing, Octothorpe likes sneaking into houses where humans keep information about various dragons. With a precise series of zaps, she sticks in a symbol comprising two horizontal strokes intersecting two (almost) vertical strokes randomly throughout the documents of her choosing.
