Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

There and Black has changed hands a few times. Every few years or even months, his caretakers will, for whatever reason, be unable or unwilling to look after him, and he'll become the ward of a new guardian. This has nothing to do with his competitive and playful nature or love for roughhousing with the other children; an unfortunate set of circumstances happen to befall whoever currently has him within a (relatively) short while of their adopting him. This seems to not have had any adverse effect on his psyche, fortunately.
