Striped Dragons come in a dazzling array of colors complemented by an intricate pattern of stripes. These bright colors and patterns help attract their favorite food, insects. Because their prey is so tiny, striped dragons must spend a large portion of their day eating. The color of the offspring is usually determined by the dragon’s mate.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

The offspring of nonchalance and vanity incarnate, the reputation of Shalts' parents greatly influences others' opinions of her. Most dragons upon meeting her assume her to be a pretentious little snob. As such, she doesn't have many friends.

Yet take note. Every friend she does have has openly declared they would die for her. It's not witchcraft nor is it a sham. Shalts inspires that kind of devotion in her friends simply because she bears that kind of devotion FOR her friends.

Her closest friends best paint her character. Both her best friends, Kicel and Breiena, are inbred, in spite of Shalts' mother. She is even in love with Kicel.

She was the first to notice he was missing in the Gritthi caverns. Both her and Brei began a desperate search for him, only when Kay and Las ordered did they stop. Yet Shalts cannot sit back and let Kicel be fed to the Velha. When everyone else had halted to rest, the two generals strode off to find their best friend.
