Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Like the egg it hatched from, it is a very shiny gold.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

It's a Big World is one of Phoenix's dragons. As the first golden offspring of his father, Crest Outmatching Quaoar, with his young mother, Feathers Drifting in the Air, he is quite a spoiled hatchling. He is quite a snob, and despite his youth and small stature, he has already learned to strut pompously with his chest puffed out. He is the "angelic child" of the hatchlings, and is quite used to being pampered and flattered -- he is not above throwing a tantrum if this sort of treatment is withheld. Most of the hatchlings know to give him his way, or trouble could be eminent.

Big also has an enormous crush on One Must Die, who is about the worst choice to have a crush on. The young Hellhorse is one of the few hatchlings that couldn't care less about Big's lineage, and she consistently maltreats, tells off, and backbites him, much to his offended, clueless shock. Although none say so aloud, most dragons secretly agree that Big deserves it.
